Once again, Venice is the \u2018floating city\u2019 leader in <strong>inbound tourism<\/strong>, first before Milan and Berlin. It is also promoted as the classic \u2018Italian city of canals\u2019, competing with about forty different \u2018Venice of the North\u2019 European cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Venice, <strong>international tourism <\/strong>2024 (70% overall) increased of +6% comparing to 2023, but this result is sill lower than pre-Covid 2019. Going into details (2023), the U.S is first with 998.000 arrivals followed by France and the UK (+300.000). Regarding domestic tourism, Lombardy is the first region with 165.000 arrivals followed by Lazio (+100.000).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2023, Italy ranked 4<sup>th <\/sup>globally: a Nation with almost 60 million international arrivals and more than 50 billion euros spent in Italy, identifying Germany as its first best tourism consumer followed by the United States, the U.K and France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2024, despite constant tourism flows, Venice is the second most expensive city for overnight stays in Italy (\u20ac205 per night) preceded by Florence (\u20ac220 per night), according to Airbnb. Italians play a significant role for <strong>domestic tourism<\/strong> increase. Nowadays, at least 40% of italians prefer travelling in Italy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Venice is still fighting against<strong> overtourism<\/strong> with<strong> low-season offers <\/strong>and authentic <strong>leisure experiences<\/strong>, but also against inhabitant migration for better life-style and more affordable places, away from rich <strong>tourist consumerism<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This kind of domestic residential migration is frequent in touristy cities and areas, even abroad. Economic and social regulations are fundamental to solve this type of residential depopulation.
