‘Spring Festival’, a Chinese economic opportunity

Years of increasingly growing growth await the tourism economy in China. This nation, which in its favor boasts a very large population and vast territories so different from each other, offers unique landscape beauty and cultural curiosities to its visitors, mainly compatriots.

We still talk about Chinese domestic tourism, rather than international, because as estimated by the recent statistics of the ‘Ministry of Culture and Tourism in China’, at least 83% of the population intends to travel in their own country, with peaks of 385 million of visitors during the ‘Spring Festival’ or ‘Chinese New Year’.

It is considered that, for 2018, a total of 5.5 billion domestic trips are expected, with an increase of 10.8% from 2017, compared to ‘only’ 142 million inbound trips, with a corresponding result of +1.4 % since 2017.

Thus, a positive improvement in the Chinese economy is assessed which also favors the increase in the inbound tourism sector, obtained mainly thanks to the 76.4% of those coming from other surrounding Asian nations.

The ‘Spring Festival’ certainly turns out to be ‘the right Chinese economic occasion’ which, lasting almost a month and having a higher number of tourists, is the predominant celebration.

Furthermore, the variety of tourist and leisure attractions in China also attract more and more visitors who combine the opportunity to celebrate the New Year together with cultural and entertainment visits.

Among the top three foreign destinations out of ten favored by the Chinese during the famous ‘Spring Festival’ we find: Thailand in first position with 23%, followed by Japan with 11% and finally the combination of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan with 13%.

To conclude, if these numbers can encourage a visit to China, a suggestion: remember, however, that if you are a tourist who wants to ‘take it easy’ and you are not Chinese, it is not advisable to travel during the ‘Spring Festival’ because you would be overwhelmed by the rush of holidays or you would remain trapped in traffic and thus incur the worst service dedicated to tourists and the poorest quality!
