Bologna: ‘City of sustainable food’

While Emilia Romagna appears to be the Italian region most visited by tourists, especially in the summer period, thanks to the numerous recreational offers for young people and families, according to recent 2017 statistics, cultural tourism also appears to be the main motivation of foreign visitors who, apart from beyond the Romagna coast, they prefer to see the various cities of art, among which Bologna stands out.
But if tourism in Emila Romagna is established above all for entertainment and culture, it should be remembered that this region full of different opportunities, creative and with multiple resources, has positioned itself first in the ranking among the Italian regions for tourism, with its wealth of landscape and territory that can also be presented at the table, thanks to its food and wine variety.
‘Fico Eataly World’ was created to promote sustainability and food education which, with private or individual tours, leads to discovering and learning about the products of the land and sea, the tradition of Italian farmers and the history of the products together with the promotion of a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
Thanks to this cultural and valorization activity of the agri-food and well-being sector, we also want to enhance the Mediterranean diet in its main healthy characteristics, a diet that has recently been accused of being ‘too rich in fat and considered harmful to health’.
Instead, we want to dispel this accusatory principle, protecting Italian food as a world heritage to be safeguarded, even from foreign imitations and fakes, as the mass media have also communicated.
‘Fico’ therefore, through these various promotional activities, including scientific research, as well as communication and education, presents Bologna to us as a ‘City of sustainable food’.
