Chicago: a metropolis not to compare

A metropolis like no others: Chicago stands out with its urban uniqueness, conquering the third place among the most visited american big cities. How to make this city more competitive?

Nowadays, the distinctive and unique elevated train ‘EL’ (or ‘Elevated’) is one of the oldest subways in the U.S, circulating in the ‘Loop’ or district center and delimiting ‘downtown Chicago’ as well. In the past, this type of transport usually ran in peripheral areas only.

A ‘future-in-the-past’ innovative solution to prevent heavy traffic from slowing down business activities which made this metropolis one of the greatest commercial hubs in America.

Furthermore, the clusters of skyscrapers with different design and shape appeared like a sort of visual effect: a fusion between the ancient and modern architecture style, utilizing different materials and colours.

Several popular and international artists came from Europe to rebuild Chicago and make it modern and contemporary as it still appears nowadays. Here, we had relevant architects such as: Frank Llyod Wright, Mies Van der Rohe, Renzo Piano and many others more.

The granite and terracotta facades and walls had been covered in colors ranging from gray to green, pink to bordeaux, decorating ‘Chicago style‘ windows and obtaining an excellent urban result, combining light effects with the surrounding outdoor spaces as different and unique styles.

Chicago is also the so-called ‘metropolis of the 100 days’ for great summer-only outdoors activities thanks to free music, events and festivals at the hi-tech Millenium Park… or why not to stay on one of the Lake Michigan’s beaches to admire this sort of ‘sea-lake’? It is one of the most unique panoramas not to miss and forget.

Chicago represents the ideal american metropolis where tourists and residents can find anything they want, culture and innovation as well: it is a real american city-culture model where past dreams came true.
