Bergamo-Brescia: the future enlightened city

The recent Russia-Ukraine war has severely exacerbated the critical economic situation and international political stability, impacting all sectors already affected by the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, which is still unresolved, albeit more controlled.

The ‘relaunch plan’ for the tourism sector has been scheduled since July 2020, finding difficulties in its full implementation with repercussions both domestically and internationally, caused by serious and highly complex situations, such as those mentioned here above.

The 2 million euros urban regeneration project for ‘Bergamo-Brescia Italian Capital of Culture 2023’ has been presented and approved for economic support through a variety of cultural promotions and events in these city areas which were seriously affected by Covid-19.

Obviously, the tourism sector is involved, including and interacting with the following four aspects: nature as national and local identity, culture as people identity at national and international level, art and culture as a positive way to recover from the pandemic and innovative urban design as a promising opportunity for local regeneration, including typical activities like craftsmanship and manufacturing.

In conclusion, let this be an excellent opportunity, despite the socio-political and economical factors, to re-emphasize the importance and value of tourism on the market by showcasing two key cities, symbols of culture, innovation and global emergency recovery.
