Tourism in Italy: forecast and report 2022

For this summer 2022, a constant increase in tourism and ‘sold out’ is expected, especially in seaside and lakeside resorts, while mountain ones are more affected by fluctuations in the number of visitor presences.

Seasonal trends in conjunction with local restrictions and the propagation of Omicron variants from the original Covid_19 will also influence the sector economy this year.

However, while Italian art cities are experiencing difficulties due to the closures of hotels, restaurants and the lack of staff, tourism in the Bel Paese is recovering from the serious economic losses of previous years, in addition, unfortunately, to the increase of the prices resulting from the humanitarian crisis of the war between Russia and Ukraine and the still present one of the Coronavirus.

Not being able to deny the economic importance that supports all the nations of the world, it is useless to confirm the gravity of this condition together with the even more tragic, humanitarian and international health condition.

According to the latest statistical data and the UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organization), the tourism industry suffered an economic loss of at least 70% in 2020, but the recovery, as expected, is still currently underway, albeit with difficulty .

European airports have returned to being as crowded with tourists as before 2019. However, there have been numerous flight cancellations due to lack of ground staff and strikes in the transport sector.

Following previous layoffs and bankruptcy or lockdown closures, it is estimated that more than 100 million jobs in the tourism sector are still at risk, with peaks in areas with the most travel restrictions.

To date, despite this, after the initial slowdowns in 2020, thanks to an efficient mass vaccination campaign and the use of the Green Pass, Italy has been able to recover part of the economic losses of previous years.

Travel abroad has thus also been freed up, without neglecting the necessary checks for national and international health safety and for the travel of each individual.
