Domestic tourism and Bergamo-Brescia Italian Capital of Culture 2023

Positive feedback for the events organized and the tourist influx in the two Italian Capitals of Culture 2023 cities, Bergamo and Brescia.

Following the Covid_19 pandemic, the trend of domestic tourism in Italy has improved since 2022, but also in relation to the year before the pandemic, 2018, in reference to the two cities.

Interest in Bergamo and Brescia in Lombardy has grown from +84% in 2018 to +95% in 2023.

From a detailed analysis, Bergamo is preferred by between 35% and 42% of people in the regions of: Piedmont, Liguria, Calabria and Sardinia.

Brescia, on the other hand, is the favorite destination for Italians between 38% and 53% in the regions of: Lombardy, Trentino Alto Adige, Veneto and Emilia Romagna.

In the rest of the other regions, local tourism remains predominant compared to the possible choice in favor of the two Italian Capitals of Culture 2023 cities.

In particular, Lazio, Valle D’Aosta, Tuscany, Sicily and Marche are the first, in order of preference, for the interest in their regional tourism, which is around 40%.

Furthermore, in 2023 the following three main reasons for tourist influx in the two provincial cities are estimated to be predominant: the scheduled events and in particular the recent ‘Festival of Lights’ or ‘Light is Life’, the easy accessibility to destinations and tourist attractions , cultural and leisure activities promoted, the tragic memory of the number of deaths and therefore of the causes linked to them, due to Covid_19.

In conclusion, the results for Italian tourism in these two cities seriously affected by ‘Coronavirus’ are encouraging, with a view to economic regrowth and post-pandemic socio-health recovery.
