London street-markets: hubs of urban regeneration

According to the latest economy plan for tourism promotion and development, London stands out from the crowd at international level, after Covid_19 lockdown.

The greater consideration for technology in favour of tourism trends, aims to promote unique products which carefully reflect visitor’s interests.

By 2025, it is expected an increase of tourism numbers in terms of arrivals which may reach 40.5 million in London.

In 2022, the London recovery plan included urban regeneration: one is for example the presence of street-markets in busy metropolitan areas, encouraging tourism promotion as well.

Since 2000, London street-markets have become more and more popular in the U.K and abroad too.

The highest percentage of interest grew from 17% for the Borough Market (central London) and from 15% for the alternative Camden Market (north London), to 63% and 44% respectively, in 2023.

Why did they become so popular? Here are some reasons: easy accessibility to work, low cost and variety of products.

London street-markets stand out from the rest in a significant and authentic way, representing their uniqueness in local metropolitan areas.

In fact, while the Borough Market is the ideal gastronomy tourism destination for Asian tourists, the Camden Market offers a wide range of ethnic food, but also typical clothing and antiques that Scandinavian and Northern European visitors like the most.
